About CMB.TECH

CMB.TECH is a diversified shipping company with approximately 250 vessels on the water and under construction worldwide. With operations spanning the globe, connectivity is critical for their workforce. As a publicly listed company, CMB.TECH processes sensitive customer and employee data, making reliable and secure IT infrastructure an absolute necessity.

A merger brings new challenges

Two years ago, CMB and Euronav merged to form the new CMB.TECH  This merger brought a significant technical challenge: two completely different network infrastructures needed to converge into one standardized, secure system.

“We have people working everywhere. Those people all need to be connected,” explains Jan Van Herck,  Head of IT and projects  at CMB.TECH “As a publicly listed company, if something were to happen to our system that makes us unreachable, prevents us from doing our work, we’d have a real problem.”

What the project involved

CMB. TECH chose a complete Juniper solution, rolled out together with Jarviss. This was no small operation: all existing components from the merged party had to be replaced with new, standardized Juniper devices.

The project included:

  • Replacement of all network devices from the merged entity
  • Implementation of standardized Juniper infrastructure across the organization
  • Setup of switches, access points and the entire network with security as the foundation
  • Integration with Juniper Mist for centralized management

“By implementing a standardized solution where we use all the same components, there’s great interchangeability in our network,”.

Why Juniper NAC?

The choice for Juniper’s Network Access Control solution was strategically thought through. An important advantage: no extra virtual server needed for certificate management. Everything could run directly on the Juniper switches, which meant one less device to monitor and manage. The project is planned to be rolled out in the future.

Juniper Mist: The future of network management

Juniper Mist fits perfectly into CMB.TECH’s IT strategy, which revolves around three pillars:

  • Maximum standardization: Managing as many devices as possible from one central portal
  • Continuous monitoring: Real-time visibility into what’s happening on the network
  • Proactive alerting: Signaling problems before they have an impact

The collaboration between CMB.TECH and Jarviss

For CMB. TECH, Jarviss’s Managed Operations service was a game-changer. “It makes our work much lighter, and I can deploy my team more on other matters to specialize more deeply in those areas,” explains Kevin Young,  IT Infrastructure Manager.

By outsourcing day-to-day monitoring and management to specialists, the internal team can focus on strategic initiatives instead of putting out operational fires. “Because Jarviss has their specific technical knowledge of the network components, our team can focus on what really matters.”

Why CMB.TECH chose Jarviss

What made CMB.TECH choose Jarviss as their partner to support them in delivering network equipment and services? Three key factors:

1. Knowledge
Deep technical expertise in Juniper components and enterprise networking.

2. Experience
Proven track record in rolling out complex network infrastructures for large organizations.

3. Mindset
A personal approach that goes beyond standard vendor relationships.

“Those three things together,  we were able to find them at Jarviss, and that’s also the reason why we chose them,” says Jan Van Herck, Head of IT and projects

The outcome

Thanks to Jarviss’s assistance, CMB.TECH made the right choice in the setup of their firewalls, switches, and entire network. The infrastructure is now set up completely securely, with standardized components that ensure flexibility and interchangeability. The NAC rollout is planned as the next project.
